Scholarship specifics
The Val Durling scholarship amount is $1000. This scholarship is a one-time
scholarship and is awarded annually if we have an applicant who meets our criteria. The
Barbara Jean Skiiner scholarship is also for $1000 and has the same criteria. It is
awarded when funds are available. When a scholarship is awarded, monies will be
dispersed directly to the applicant’s educational institution to be applied toward tuition,
required fees and supplies.

Eligibility
Applicants must be residents of Jefferson County. Applicants must be a graduating
senior or a continuing or returning student enrolled in a community college, college,
university, vocational or technical training institute. Applicants must have a minimum of
a B (3.0) average or equivalent academic achievement in their most recent academic
setting. Applicants should have the intention of pursuing a career in a performing arts
related field such as acting, music, voice, dance, film or video production, music
education, theater management, directing, writing, costume design, set design and
construction or stage lighting and sound. Scholarships are awarded without regard to
race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity or age. All scholarship decisions will be made by
the LVP Board of Directors.

Application Process
Applicants must complete a Scholarship application form. They must submit an essay of
approximately 500 words explaining how their field of study has affected their lives to
date and their goals for the future. Applicants must provide an example of their creative
work appropriate to their field such as a link of a live performance. Applicants must
provide at least two letters of recommendation from teachers or other individuals (not
family members) who are very familiar with their artistic and academic abilities.

Application and other requested information should be submitted via email to
scholarship@ludlowvillageplayers.org by March 31.
